Frequently Asked Questions
-
Oil Pal is 11 inches tall. If Oil Pal does not fit underneath your vehicle we recommend using a floor jack or ramps to raise it slightly before draining.
-
Oil Pal works with virtually any vehicle you'd change oil on at home — cars, trucks, SUVs, minivans, boats, motorcycles, ATVs, lawn mowers, and small engines. If it has a drain plug, Oil Pal can catch it.
-
For the vast majority of passenger cars, trucks, and SUVs, yes. Most engines take between 4 and 6 quarts of oil — Oil Pal holds 14 quarts (3.5 gallons), which covers even larger V8 engines comfortably. For diesel trucks or performance vehicles with larger oil capacities, we recommend checking your owner's manual to confirm.
-
Yes. Oil Pal handles conventional, synthetic, high-mileage, and diesel motor oils without any issues.
-
Slide Oil Pal under your vehicle with the wide-mouth opening positioned directly below your drain plug. The tall sidewalls catch oil even if the stream angles or splashes — no need to position it perfectly. Remove your drain plug and let it drain completely before moving Oil Pal.
-
Once your used oil is collected and you're ready to transfer it to a recycling jug, point the flexible discharge hose into your recycling container, and open the valve. Oil flows cleanly and completely — no tilting, no fumbling, no splashing. Close the valve when done.
-
Rinse the inside with a small amount of dish soap and warm water, swirl it around, and drain through the valve. A quick wipe down of the outside is all it needs. Avoid harsh solvents or abrasive scrubbers — they're not necessary and can damage the seals over time.
-
Absolutely — Oil Pal is built for repeated use over years of oil changes, not just one or two. The industrial-grade materials and oil-resistant seals are designed to hold up through dozens of oil changes without leaking, cracking, or warping.
-
Some light staining from used oil is normal and cosmetic — it doesn't affect performance. The sealed lid contains odors effectively between uses, and a soap-and-water rinse after each use keeps smell to a minimum.
-
Most auto parts stores accept used motor oil for free — AutoZone, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Advance Auto Parts, and Walmart Auto Centers are the most common drop-off locations. Many local recycling centers and service stations also accept it. Visit earth911.com and enter "motor oil" plus your zip code to find the closest drop-off location to you.
-
No — and it is harmful to the environment. Used motor oil should always be taken to a certified recycling drop-off location. One gallon of improperly disposed motor oil can contaminate up to one million gallons of drinking water. Oil Pal makes transporting used oil to a recycling center easy and spill-free.
-
Yes — the sealed lid and carry handle make Oil Pal perfect for transporting used oil to a recycling center. Most drop-off locations will simply have you pour your used oil into their collection tank, which you can do cleanly using Oil Pal's built-in valve and discharge hose.
